How Can CBD Benefit Athletes?

CBD for Athletes

Sports has been in the world for ages, and with every passing year it becomes better, more fun and more exciting. As times change, the implementation of protective gears in order to shield our sportsmen as much as possible has come into play. However, the unfortunate bit about it is the fact that our sportsmen have to deal with a lot of injuries every now and then, despite the effort made by our officials to help avoid the same.

In the earlier days, people would ideally rely on medication to help heal their wounds- be it open or inflamed ones. However, the downside of popping painkillers every now and then in order to heal temporarily, yet soon, is that you get immune to it over time, which is quite bad for the long run when you may really need one to help subside an injury that may be an internal one which can be worse than a superficial or external one.

The good news is that athletes can now resort to using CBD, which is a more natural way of healing an inflamed wound and reducing pain, over painkillers.

CBD is well-known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties which is why it is widely gaining popularity in today’s world. Not only for athletes, but even cancer patients, patients with arthritis and other chronic diseases, and even those with mental health issues benefit from CBD.

CBD is a cannabinoid that’s derived from the hemp plant, just like THC. However, THC gives the feeling of a “high” which is why it is considered to be intoxicating, which CBD isn’t. CBD helps relieve pain, inflammation, anxiety and depression but isn’t intoxicating in any way. However, different forms of CBD oil contain CBD as well as other cannabinoids present in the hemp plant, some of which contain THC as well.

Forms of CBD:

Full-spectrum: Full-spectrum CBD contains every single cannabinoid present in the hemp plant, including THC. However, in order for it to be sold legally, it must contain either 0.3% of THC or even less. However, for it to be qualified as a full-spectrum CBD oil, it must contain at least minimal traces of THC.

Broad-spectrum CBD: Broad-spectrum CBD oils contain every cannabinoid present in the hemp plant, except for THC. If an individual wishes to benefit from every aspect of the hemp plant except from that of THC, this is a wise choice to make.

Isolate CBD oils: Isolate CBD contains only CBD and no other cannabinoid. So, if one wants to reap the benefits of CBD and nothing else, this makes for the perfect choice.

How to Use CBD for Inflammation:

For sportsmen and athletes who experience soreness and inflammation due to tiredness or injuries, CBD can be very helpful to help decrease that. In order to make use of CBD, they have different options of consumption.

For example, for tiredness or a headache, they can choose to consume CBD orally through capsules and tinctures. For wounds and inflammation, CBD creams and lotions make for good options which they have to just gently massage on the area affected.

However, in order for them to use it efficiently and to make sure that it doesn’t come in the way of any other medication that they may be on, it is wise to consult a medical professional for the same.
