CBD is widely used for a lot of purposes including reducing anxiety levels, easing symptoms of chronic illnesses and more. It is also known to help with diabetes but there is unfortunately not much research related to the same. However, according to surveys and a few tests, there have been a few positive outcomes of the same which suggest that CBD may help those who suffer from diabetes:
Majority of the studies of CBD for diabetes have been conducted on mice and rats. Even though they are mammals just as humans are, their genealogy is quite different. That’s why, even though CBD may have proven to work well on them, it may or may not be as effective on humans.
One of the studies wherein CBD was used on mice with less blood flow to the brain which is a symptom of diabetes in some, showed the following effects:
- It lowered the levels of cholesterol
- Reduced hyperglycemia (high blood sugar levels)
- Increased the production of insulin
A few more studies showed the following results:
Reduces swelling and pain: CBD is known to have anti-inflammatory properties which works on easing most kinds of pains and swellings that occur due to various chronic diseases. Varicose veins, neuropathic pains and more can be caused or effected by diabetes and CBD helps give relief from these pains and swellings.
Helps produce good fat: The use of CBD can help produce good fat by turning white fat into brown fat which can help the body use more glucose.
Should You Be Concerned About Using CBD While You Have Diabetes?
According to nutritionists and dieticians, there will always be concerns while using any over the counter medication that hasn’t been prescribed by your doctor. Depending on the product being used, it may have its own side effects in type 1, 2 and gestational diabetes.
It is advised that you consult a professional in case you choose to consume CBD along with clinically prescribed medication, since research suggests that if the both of them are consumed, there is a possibility of the endocannabinoid system buffering the insulin levels rather than inhibiting it.
Also, while consuming CBD, you may also be consuming other cannabinoids which may interfere with your medication in different ways. In order to avoid unpleasant and unwanted results, it may be a wise choice to consult your doctor about whether or not to consume CBD and what kind to consume, including the form and type of CBD oil.
